Department of Social Services - HEAP

The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is a program that helps low-income households pay their home energy costs. The program can also help with certain essential heating equipment repairs.

You may be able to get HEAP if:
   â€¢   you receive Temporary Assistance
   â€¢   you receive SNAP benefits
â€¢   your income is at or below current set guidelines
â€¢   You receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

If you qualify, HEAP may be able to help you if your source of heat is: natural gas, propane, oil, electricity, wood/wood pellets, kerosene, coal or corn.

The HEAP year generally begins in mid-November and closes in mid-March or when the program funding is exhausted. A cooling component that assists medically needy households with the purchase of air conditioners may also be available during the warmer months. Most benefits are paid directly to the heating/utility vendor.

The income guidelines and benefits amounts are subject to change on a yearly basis.
