FULTON COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICE ANNOUNCES THE FOLLOWING:

FIRE INVESTIGATOR

FULTON COUNTY RESIDENCY IS REQUIRED

 

The Fulton County Emergency Management Office is currently hiring per diem Fire Investigators.

2025 Salary: $25.08/Hour

Typical Work Activities:

Responds to fires at the direction of the Fire Coordinator/Civil Defense Director to investigate the cause and origin of the fire through scientific methods under NFPA 921 and NFPA 1033;

Takes appropriate photographs of the fire scene, makes appropriate sketches or diagrams; examines char and burn patterns; and uses knowledge of factors affecting fire spread and the heat characteristics of various materials;

Secures samples of fire remains and any other evidence from the fire;

Interviews people who may have witnessed the fire, firefighters involved with suppression activities, owners/occupants of the fire property;

Prepares fire investigation reports covering all aspects of each investigation;

Assists with the development of policies and procedures related to Fire Investigation Team operations;

Attend various meetings and trainings;

Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school, possession of a high school equivalency diploma or a high school individual education plan diploma; and

A. Three (3) years of satisfactory experience in firefighting as a paid, full-time employee of a fire department; or 

B. Five (5) years of satisfactory experience in interior firefighting as a member in good standing of a volunteer* fire company or department duly organized under the laws of New York State. 

*Proof of volunteer status must be submitted with application.
 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: 

At time of appointment: 

Completion of Firefighter I course or equivalent;

Completion of ICS 100, ICS 200, IS 700, and IS 800;

Must have valid NYS Drivers License and maintain throughout employment.

Incumbent will be required to complete the following within 24 months of appointment (may be extended contingent upon course availability):

Completion of 40 hour Introduction to Fire Investigation course;

Completion of 80 hour Fire Investigation course; 

Completion of 50 hour field training.
